General Motors is recalling 1.5 million Buick, Cadillac, Hummer, Saturn and GMC sport-utility vehicles, pickups and cars from 2006 to 2009 .
A heated washer fluid system module could pose a fire risk.
  • 2006-09 vehicles under recall: Buick Lucerne, Cadillac DTS., Hummer H2.,
2008-09 vehicles under recall: Buick Enclave. Cadillac CTS.
2007-09 vehicles under recall: Cadillac Escalade. Escalade ESV. Escalade EXT. Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe. GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL. Saturn Outlook.
2009-only vehicle under recall: Chevrolet Traverse.

Most of the vehicles, 1,365,070, are in the United States; there are 98,794 affected vehicles in Canada; 26,228 in Mexico, and 38,093 exports.
The heated washer fluid system was recalled in August 2008 because a short circuit on the printed circuit board could overheat the control-circuit ground wire. Dealers at the time installed an in-line fuse in the heated washer module wiring.
Dealership service personnel will remove the heated washer fluid module and reroute washer fluid hoses. Customers will begin receiving recall letters this month, but they can contact their dealer at any time to make an appointment to have the heated washer system removed.

June 4, 2010: Chrysler Recalls Some Dodge Calibers
Apparently hoping to avoid a Toyota type fiasco and trying to score points for being ahead of any NHTSA outrage and action, Chrysler is recalling 35,000 Dodge Calibers in the US and around the world to fix a potential problem with sticky gas pedals.
The pedals were made by the CTS Corporation, the company in Elkhart, Ind., that manufactured pedals involved in the recall of more than two million Toyotas earlier this year.

May 3, 2010: NY Times Judge Approves Preliminary Settlement of Honda Brake Suit
A federal judge has given preliminary approval to a settlement of a class-action suit that says the rear brakes on 750,000 Accords and Acura TSXs are wearing out much faster than they should.
The suit was filed in September and covers 2008–9 Accords, 2009 Acura TSXs and a few 2010s.
The suit claims the rear brakes wear out in 15,000 to 20,000 miles because a new brake design causes “excessive force to be applied to the vehicles rear wheels.”

Mar 16, 2010: Honda to recall 410,000 vehicles for brake problem
Honda Motor Co. says it is recalling about 410,000 vehicles due to brake pedal problems.
The recall is for 2007 and 2008 model years:
  • 344,000 Odysseys and
    68,000 Elements
Honda says the problem stems from the stability control system which can make the brake pedals feel soft to drivers and requires aditional pedal pressure to stop. The condition worsens over time but affects only some of the vehicles.

Mar 2, 2010: GM to recall 1.3M compacts for steering problem
General Motors Co. is recalling 1.3 million Chevrolet and Pontiac compact cars sold in the U.S., Canada and Mexico to fix power steering motors that can fail. The recall affects:
  • 2005 to 2010 Chevrolet Cobalts,

2005 and 2006 Pontiac Pursuits sold in Canada
2005 and 2006 Pontiac G4s sold in Mexico.
GM says the vehicles are still safe to drive and never lose their steering, but it may be harder to steer when the vehicle is travelling under 15 mph.
NHTSA began an investigation into 905,000 of the models on Jan. 27 after getting 1,100 complaints that the cars lost their power steering assist. The complaints included 14 crashes and one injury.

HEY! another recall, and NOT Toyota!
Feb 9, 2010: Honda expands airbag inflation recall
Honda Motor Co. is adding more than 378,000 cars to an existing safety recall for air bag inflation problems, the company said Tuesday. The recall now affects more than 822,000 vehicles, including certain 2001 and 2002 Accord sedans, Civic compacts, Odyssey minivans, CR-V small sport utility vehicles and some 2002 Acura TL sedans.
The company will replace the driver's side air bag inflator on the cars because they can deploy with too much pressure, causing the inflator to rupture and injure or kill the driver.

Ford recall hits 4.5 million vehicles
Automaker issues largest single recall ever due to a faulty cruise control switch that could lead to a fire.
By Hibah Yousuf, CNNMoney.com,October 13, 2009
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Ford issued the largest single recall in its history Tuesday as drivers of an additional 4.5 million vehicles were alerted about a fire hazard from a faulty switch.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said this was the eighth recall, involving a total of 16 million Ford Motor (F, Fortune 500) vehicles, concerning the cruise control deactivation switch manufactured by Texas Instruments (TXN, Fortune 500).
The faulty switch can leak hydraulic fluid, overheat, smoke and then burn, and risks causing a fire even when the ignition is turned off, parked and unattended, the NHTSA said.
The risk is elevated for 1.1 million Windstars that were subject to a government investigation, said Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood.
We determined with the government that there is a low risk of fires for those vehicles," Sherwood said. "The other 3.4 million vehicles are the remaining vehicles that have the Texas Instrument switch, so we're recalling them to reassure customers and prevent future recalls."
Sherwood added that Ford has always gone beyond recalling only the cars that present a risk.

Also from New York Times.com:
"Addressing concerns over fires, Ford is conducting a recall of 4.5 million vehicles in the United States equipped with speed control deactivation switches from Texas Instruments. The switches have already been the subject of six recalls.
Recalls began in 1999 and covered some 10 million Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles from 1992 to 2004.
This means that more than 14 million Ford vehicles have been recalled for this problem, a record number for a single problem, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The earlier recalls involved the Texas Instruments cruise-control deactivation switch, which was powered at all times and could develop a short circuit. That could cause a vehicle to catch fire even while it was parked and the ignition was off.
The agency issued a consumer advisory in February 2008 because vehicles were continuing to catch fire and in some cases were burning down garages.

This thread will be used to post news on major vehicle recall notices OTHER than Toyota.
Because Toyota has so dominated the news, we created a separate thread for Toyota Vehicle Recalls under the new McHenry Software Forum heading Toyota Turmoil News
