Transportation department furloughed

Post by brian »

Mar 1, 2010: As if the embarrassing Toyota hearings debacle weren't enough of a slap in the face of LaHood and the Transportation department, Senate gamesmanship by a Republican senator (Sen. Jim Bunning, R-Ky) has furloughed without pay two thousand federal transportation workers AND federal reimbursements to states for highway programs are also halted. The reimbursements amount to about $190 million a day, according to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Mar 3, 2010: Oh Joy! NHTSA employees get at least another 30 days before being furloughed again. This type of treatment of federal employees should constitute abuse!
Posted on the http://www.nhtsa.gov site today:
March 03: All NHTSA employees should report to work as normal on Wednesday, March 3. The Senate has resolved its impasse and extended the Highway Extension Bill for another 30 days. If you have additional questions, please call your supervisor or the Office of Human Resources at 202-366-1784.
