Driver Comfort or Discomfort Factor

Q: This is supplemental to a question on the INCR forum about 'Speed while turning Left".
One of the responses was where someone was monitoring the lateral acceleration and it's comparison to what is 'comfort' or 'discomfort'.
The question is related to a FHWA research project we worked on in the 80's which included our coming up with a 'discomfort factor'.
The figures below are our response.

- We'd also reiterate our comments in the forum post:
The following figures are from our 1982 report "HVOSM Studies of Cross-Slope Breaks on Highway Curves", Contract DOT-FH-11-9575, PB33 191619
The main point is that the 'comfort' or 'discomfort' felt by a driver is due not only to lateral acceleration but also the vehicle roll angle.
