Tesla Self Driving 'autopilot' mode

Post by MSI » Tue Apr 12, 2016 9:45 am

April 11, 2016: Had a friend take me for a drive in his new Tesla Model X which includes a 'self driving' mode which drove us for miles on a busy highway hands free!
I did a quick search for information on tests on it. It apparently was an option added to Model-S and is included in the Model X.
Here's a blurb from ComputerWorld: I'll dig a bit deeper and post additional information soon.

Her's an article on it from the New Yorker, April 14, 2016:
  • Will the Tesla Model 3 Be the First Truly Self-Driving Car?
    which begins...

Part 2 is super next level, but that’s for later . . .

and from MIT Technology Review: Drivers Push Tesla’s Autopilot Beyond Its Abilities
which begins...
  • Enthusiastic Tesla owners cheered last Wednesday when the company enabled the use of an automated driving system, called Autopilot, in its Model S all-electric sedans. The wireless update of vehicles to Version 7.0 of Tesla software—which allows properly equipped cars to steer, switch lanes, and manage speed on its own—is exactly the kind of bold move that makes many Tesla fans so excited about the company. In fact, a number of Tesla drivers immediately took to the road to test the limits of Autopilot—taking their hands fully off the wheel and seeing how far the car could drive itself down highways, country lanes, and suburban streets.
