Car/Motorcycle simulation with mSMAC?

Post by MSI »

Q: Is there a way to simulate a car/motorcycle collision in the mSMAC program? Every time I get close to a collision I receive an error message and the program stops.
A:There were a number of motorcycle collision simulations performed by Husher, Smith & Hermitte and published in Europe.
The paper was called Computational Analysis of Motocycle Crash Tests - A Basis for Motorcycle Accident Reconstruction.
The error message you may be receiving is probably related to vehicle stiffness values and collision proximity to the 'Center of Collision Interface' (CCI). Please see our paper SMAC-97 - Refinement of the Collision Algorithm, SAE Paper No. 97-0947. See the section in the paper on the CCI. With small vehicles like a motorcycle you may encounter issues related to the CCI.
Then with that in consideration please try refining your inputs for the program and let us know as you progress if you encounter additional issues.
