SMAC Cornering Stiffness values

Post by MSI »

Q: I have a question for you regarding tire cornering stiffness values.
  • I've recently started delving into the smac-RT module of my REC-TEC program and have a fairly good handle on the basics. For the sample problems that I've seen, the default tire cornering stiffness value for all four tires has been -125lb/degree. Assuming identical tires and inflation pressures at all four corners, this would seem OK if each tire was carrying the same weight. I'm thinking the values should be adjusted to reflect the actual weight distribution UNLESS this is done in the program's inner workings at some point.
Any thoughts?

A: We do not know how RECTEC sets defaults for cornering stiffness for their smac-RT program. We have no association with RECTEC or the smac-RT program.
However for ANY version of SMAC, particularly those which are simple conversions of the original SMAC program, the tire cornering stiffness should be calculated in a similar fashion and based on the weight on each tire.
