Q: Are WinSmash, EdCrash, WinCRASH just clones of CRASH?

A: Yes WinSmash, Edcrash and wincrash are all simply clones of CRASH.
They are no more accurate than any other.
WinSmash was created ONLY for NHTSA use to keep NHTSA out of all the litigation related false claims of accuracy attributed to CRASH and implying NHTSA endorsement of CRASH.
CRASH is a first approximation technique

CRASH was created as a simple pre-processor for SMAC.
Fast fwd 40+ years to litigation claims today and folks try to present crash as a bonfide accurate crash model!

And obviously if only damage data available then damage analysis must be used
Just realize the limitations of the accuracy of damage analysis.
