May 23, 2010: Due to a shortage of methyl methacrylate, one of the key ingredients in roadworthy paint, which makes the lines sturdy, long-lasting and reflective, there is a major shortage of traffic striping paint. Dow Chemical had production problems in Deer Park, TX and other companies had scaled back production due to the economic downturn so many road repaving projects are finding a shortage of traffic paint and so may need to be scaled back or put on hold.
