Databases

The medit32 Windows interface includes easy access to several databases for vehicle specifications and full-scale crash test data. The databases can be accessed from the Databases menu. To access, select the Databases Menu and a drop down list will appear similar to Figure 41:

If you mouse click on any of the four items in the Database menu the corresponding database browser will open.  The databases are publicly available from NHTSA and/or Transport Canada and are generally updated annually. The Year/Model Interchange Lists (Domestic & Imported) is prepared by Greg Anderson of Scalia Engineering.  As a service to our users we will provide periodic updates to the various databases. The three database files which are currently included with medit32 are as follows:

CATAIR & NHTSA Vehicle Specifications Database

The first database listed in the Tools menu is the Vehicle Specifications (NHTSA & CATAIR) Database.  This database is provided by NHTSA & Transport Canada.  Medit32 has added a Windows browser to the database which incorporates data from both databases. (Note that the NHTSA database has not been updated in 10 or so years). Please note the various options for sorting, viewing and searching the database.

The selection of a vehicle is accomplished by first selecting the Make. When you select a Make all  Models available are listed in the Model section. Selecting the yellow file marker (i.e.,  ) adjacent to a Model with a mouse click produces a list of the years available. Selecting a  year produces the specifications for the year. The list to the right contains the specifications and may include a red asterisk (i.e., * ) to indicate that there are more than one model listed and that the particular specification is different between the models.  The Units  selection is also provided to automatically change the units displayed from English to/from Metric. The Print command prints the selection to your Windows printer. The Export command writes the information to an ASCII text file.

NHTSA Crash Test Database

The last database listed in the Database menu is the NHTSA Crash Test Database w/Extended Data.  The database is updated by NHTSA. Medit32  has added a Windows browser to the database, a search function, links to the full data (Vehicles, Occupants, Restraints) and options to view the PDF reports and Photographs:
