Dynamic Units Conversion

The medit environment has been modified to permit the in-place conversion of input datasets to and from all the optional Input Units: Original, DEFAULT and Metric. The conversion of a m-smac input dataset is accomplished in medit simply by changing the Input Units designation. The Input Units designation is located in the upper right corner of the medit screen (see Figure 39 and Figure 40).

To change the current input units, simply click on the selector tab  located to the right of the Input Units drop-down list box. When you change the designation for the Input units, a confirmation dialog box will pop-up in medit to verify the requested input units change. The dialog box will list both the current units and the units to which the program is to be converted. Upon your confirmation of the input units change, the conversion will immediately occur.

Please note that any time you convert units minor changes in the input values may occur due to conversion roundoff. To cancel a conversion after it has occurred you should close the file without saving. Then simply re-open the dataset. Try to minimize the number of times you convert a dataset back and forth between the various input units. It is suggested that you retain the original dataset in the original units. To accomplish this, first use the Units tab to perform a conversion, then use the File menu Save As command to save the converted file as new file name. This will preserve the original dataset. When using the Save As command, medit will automatically ask if you want to add the new file to your existing project.

To change the current output units, simply click on the selector tab  located to the right of the Output Units drop-down list box. Changing the Output units designation only affects the printed output from m-smac and the smac Graphics (msmacgr) static graphics display.
