You must be signed in as an Administrator to install the medit32/msmac software

Say OK to allow the medit32/msmac installation which will may produce a ‘Unidentified Program Wants Access’ message.

    ActiveX issues

Medit32 Help files and interaction require active content. Please check the following options on your computer to avoid Windows Explorer messages  when loading Help which state s“To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running of scripts or ActiveX controls…” every time you access help.

Medit32 is a complete installation of the current version of the McHenry Medit software, and does not rely on any previous installations of Medit being present.

Medit32 is 100 % compatible with all prior versions of Medit.

You can (but do not have to) install it in the same folder as your existing Medit package.  The folder name can be whatever you choose.  The default is <C:\MSOFT>., but you can modify that as desired.  Your existing installation of Medit will not be harmed or erased, and will remain fully functional.

We recommend installation of medit32 to the default <C:\MSOFT> directory

All projects and all project input files ( PRJ, SI5, SCE, VEH, etc ) from your existing Medit installation ( if any ) will work directly within MEdit32, with no special provisions or conversions needed.

None of your prior work will be lost, or need to be modified or converted, etc.

Some of the output files have been enhanced and expanded (especially the CSV outputs of msmac and msmacthp), so as to gain the full benefit of Medit32 for legacy projects,

Therefore you will need to re-run msmac (or msmacthp) on old files to update the output files and make them functional with the new medti32. (Simply open the project, and click the 'Run' button at the upper right, as usual).

When working on a project, either legacy or new, you will want to consider the new feature of Medit32 that allows you to keep files 'per project' in individual Project folders, rather than having everything in the Run folder.

Please see sections on Cloning projects and Copying projects for more information, and instructions on how to move an existing project out of the Run folder and into its own dedicated Project folder.  This greatly simplifies file management, report storage, etc.

The Demo projects have been improved and expanded, as have their Help files, and you may find it useful to start with My First Project, to get orientated with some of the new items in Medit32.

And now on to the installation process !

You will need two files -

Medit32_Full_install_setup.exe - This standard Windows installer contains all files needed to install Medit32.  You will still need the McHenry Software sentinel device or 'dongle'.

LicenseKey.txt - this file will be emailed to you upon your initial license purchase or license renewal.  It is not contained in the above installation package.  When you get it, copy it to the medit32 installation folder (normally c:\msoft).

The first dialog box to appear is the Welcome dialog box (see below). It suggests that you close all Windows applications that are running (particularly Microsoft Office), so that install can properly update any shared files. Please be sure to exit all Windows applications.

Press the <Next> button.  You will be presented with the McHenry Software license agreement (see below), which contains important information about your rights to this software.

Figure 49 Medit License Agreement dialog

After reading the McHenry Software License Agreement carefully, Click 'I Agree', and press the <Next> button.

PLEASE NOTE: The license agreement can be accessed at any time

§ Help menu -> McHenry Software License Agreement.

On the next screen, enter your User name, and organization (if desired),

press the <Next> button.

On the next screen, you can change the installation folder if desired.

The default installation directory is c:\msoft, we recommend using the default installation folder.

Press the <Next> button.

On the next screen, you have the option to place a shortcut to Medit32 in your Start menu.

It is recommended that you place a shortcut in your start menu.

Press the <Next> button.

On the next screen, you will see that the Installation process is going to install several supporting components:

Visual Basic, Microsoft Jet, and Sentinel dongle support

These will be 'checked' if needed.  They are all required, and must be present.

Please allow them to install.

Press the <Next> button.

On the next screen, you can review your choices before proceeding.

If acceptable, click <Install> to begin the process.

After a few minutes of installing Medit32, the installation process will get to installing the Sentinel dongle software.

NOTE: If you are updating a working version of medit with medit32, you do not need to reinstall the sentinel software, so you can skip this step.

Otherwise, you will again step through a standard set of Windows install dialog boxes, clicking 'Next' for each one.

Please leave the default selections 'as is', including the one for 'Complete installation'.

Press the <Next> button.

At this time, the installation process will complete, and you will have an Icon on your desktop (and in your Start menu) for Medit32!

VISTA USERS: Once the program is installed, the desktop shortcut may have to be modified as follows:

Right click the medit32 desktop shortcut

Click Properties->Shortcut->Advanced

Make sure ‘Run as Administrator’ is checked (if toggle is unavailable, then you do not have administrative permissions and must log in as an administrator).

You're done!

Make SURE you have copied the file Licensekey.txt, which McHenry software sent you separately, into the Medit32 installation folder (which is normally c:\msoft) If you do not copy the file, Medit32 will inform you that the file is missing, and will not run.

If you have multiple machines where you use the same dongle, repeat the above process, including copying the LicenseKey.txt file (very important!) to each one.  You do not need separate versions of the Licensekey.txt files for each machine, but rather 'one file per dongle', and both the dongle and the file must be present on the machine you are using.

New users should now proceed to Starting medit  which includes startup and overall useage instructions.

Upgrade users should proceed to My First Project and/or What’s New which include step-by-step instructions for some of the new and enhanced features.
