The medit Option choices relate to General paths, the font used for the text editor, cardset editor validation options and a Tools menu where you can add frequently used Tools directly to the medit Tools menu for easy access. A discussion of each of the options follows:

General

The General section lists the current default Directories and Files that medit is currently using. You may change any or all of these: however it is recommended that you maintain all files in a common subdirectory

Text Editor

The Text editor section is for modifying the choice of text font characteristics that a dataset displayed with the Text editor will use. Occasionally you may want to modify the size and type of font, especially if the current default font used by the program is not adequate. Toggle the Select button to pop up a font selection dialog box and choose a font. On your next Text file open the program will use the font to display the data.

Cardset Editor

Two options are available for the Cardset Editor: Check Inputs Ranges: enables/disables input range checking, Allow Editing of Cards/Fields Not in DB: enables/disables editing of cards not in the database. In the event a problem occurs in the input database which prevents you from entering a valid input parameter, these options are provided to permit you to continue utilizing medit (after reporting the problem, of course!)

Tools Menu

medit permits the addition of user Tools to the interface. Tools are any programs, batch files, or other commands you commonly execute and you would like to have easy access from the medit environment. Tools added may also have predefined arguments passed to them ($FILE sends the current file name) or you may indicate for a given Tool that you want to be prompted for arguments to pass to the program. Then when you select the Tool menu item the program will automatically ask you for a parameter and then execute the Tool from the medit environment.
