SMACTHP Example with RICSAC2

When we reconstruct an collision between motor vehicles, on of the purposes of the reconstruction is to determine the acceleration environment and impact speed change for the occupant(s). The standard outputs from msmac provides information at the Center of Gravity of the vehicle. In many instances the accelerations and impact speed changes may be different for passenger locations. This is the reason for our post-processing auxiallry routoine msmacTHP, which is the Smac Time History Program. Please see our SAE paper 97-0961 RICSAC97 – A reevaluation of the Reference Set of Full Scale Crash Tests, for additional information on RICSAC and research related to the differences in velocity and acceleration at various locations in vehicles.

SMACTHP is a post-processing tool for msmac which allows users to determine the time history of the acceleration and velocity at any location in the vehicle. The input for SMACTHP is a msmac output time history tape. For every msmac run a time history tape is created which includes the variables and derivatives of the simulation run. To properly apply smacTHP you have to run msmac with 0.001 sec output for the time increment of interest (the collision interval).

This example includes a number of enhancements implemented in msmac and medit including:

    Control of output time increment

Setting Target Impact and Rest Positions

    Setting Target Crush Measurements

Setting the Steering and Braking Tables Relative to Impact

Acceleration and Velocity Display Vectors of Animation

    Running smacTHP

    Making Charts of smacTHP

SMACTHP_Example_with_Ricsac2.Si5

This is the main SI5 file. SI5 files are Smac Input files unit5

Research performed in the 1970's revealed significant limitations in the available documentation of vehicle crush information and trajectory spinout information. As a result a series of fullscale crash tests were performed which became known as the Research Input for Computer Simulation of Automobile Collisions (RICSAC) crash tests.

This is one of the RICSAC test runs which includes

SMACTHP_Example_with_Ricsac2.Sg5

This is the Smac Graphics Input unit5 file. Sg5 is the suffix for input files for the Smac Graphics program which displays the summary results of smac

SMACTHP_Example_with_Ricsac2.Sa5

This is the SMAC Animation unit5 input file. SA5 is the suffix for input files for the SMAC Animation program.

SMACTHP_Example_with_Ricsac2.Sce

This is the SCE or scene file for the project. For this project we only use a simple grid.
