Text Edit Example

To Copy a line of text, first select the text, as described above, then choose either:

the Quick Access Toolbar Copy button.

    the Edit menu  Copy command.

the keyboard shortcut: press the Ctrl and Insert keys together.

The highlighted text is copied into the Windows buffer.

Next move the cursor to the line and column location in the file you wish to copy to.  Then choose either:

The Quick Access Toolbar Paste button.

    Edit menu and Paste command.

the keyboard shortcut Shift and Insert keys together.

The copied text is then pasted at the specified location.

The following are the menu edit commands, note that they are followed by the keyboard sequence shortcut:

Please note the following items:

The Cut command functions similarly to the Copy command except that the original location of the text is not preserved, i.e., the text is cut from the file and placed into the buffer.

The buffer can only contain the results of either the last Copy or Cut command. If you Cut  or Copy another text selection before pasting the previously highlighted text, the previously highlighted text is removed from the buffer and lost. (Use of the Copy command always preserves the original text. Once you have successfully moved the text you can always go back and delete the original).

To Delete text, simply highlight the text and either use the Cut  command or use the Delete key. You can also delete individual text characters by positioning the cursor at the first item of text to delete and pressing  the Delete key to delete characters.

Individual items of text can be inserted or deleted by the use of the Insert and /or Delete keys

To Insert a line do one of the following:

Position the cursor at the end of the line you wish to insert after (to move to the end of the line press the End key). Once at the end of the line press the Enter key.  You are now in insert mode for the new blank line.

Position the cursor at the first column of the line you wish to insert the line before (To quickly move to column 1 press the Home key). Once at column 1 of the line press the Enter key. You will note a blank line has been inserted before the current line. Now simply use the up arrow key to move to the blank line and begin typing the text to insert.

If a line gets split, you can rejoin a line by positioning at the end of the 1st segment of the line (While on the line press End key) and then press the Delete key to rejoin the line.
