Text Files

Any other files opened other than m-smac input files are edited as text files with an integrated full screen text editor.  The text editor included with medit includes the basic commands Copy,  Paste and Cut. The text editor functions in much the same way as the Notepad editor that comes with Windows except that there is virtually no limit on the size of the text file you edit  (please note that for very large text files it loads the file slowly and may take one to two minutes to load).

The normal technique for editing text files is to first select text you wish to edit and then execute a command to be performed on the selected text.

To select text to edit use either:

the mouse:

Position the mouse at the first text item to select. Then while pressing and holding down the left mouse key, move the mouse to the right to select the word, words, line or lines that you want selected.

The keyboard:

Position the cursor with the arrow keys at the first text item you wish to select, then while pressing the Shift key use the right arrow key or down arrow key to highlight the word, words, line or lines.

Once text is selected, you use the mouse or keyboard to select the command you wish to perform with the selected text. The commands are available either from the Quick Access ToolBar, the Edit Menu or with simple keyboard shortcuts.
