July 5, 2012: While reading an interesting book "
Provenance - How a Con Man and a Forger Rewrote the History of Modern Art" I came across the following quote on Forensic Science:
- 'Arthur Conan Doyle* once said that forensic science was unique because...
- with most sciences
"You start with a series of experiments and work forward.
But in forensic science
we have the finished product and we have to work backward”'
COMMENT: The book is Highly Recommended! It chronicles one of the greatest cons in the history of art forgery. From the dust jacket “A well-plotted thriller, filled with unforgettable characters and told at break-neck pace. But it most certainly is not fiction!"
*FYI: Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a Scottish physician and writer, most noted for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes and for the adventures of Professor Challenger.
