Motorcycle SUV crash

Post by MSI »

Another interesting crash posted up on the NAPARS Facebook Page
Here's the photo that piqued my interest.

NOTE:This is a DRAFT:
  • We only spend an hour or so preparing these visual displays of our msmac3D simulation.
We set these up when we find something about the crash interesting.
We don't have the measurements and other information to perform a full reconstruction.
We don't spend additional time to add the houses, background, etc.
This is simply a quick demonstration of some of the 3D modeling capabilities of our msmac3D simulation and how it can help with understanding 'what happened' with a vehicle and crash dynamics.

In this one the interesting fluid trail (maybe i need to add a fluid drain option!)
so wondered how did it leave that fluid trail...after a few tweaks and changes seem to have landed on something similar (obviously need actual measurements of tire marks to do a better match, etc)
i included a motorcycle impact in the simulation
i didn't have a Harley graphics model
  • We get our msmac3D users 3D graphics Models as needed and hadn't done a Harley .
  • Had other motorcycles but they didn't look right for this crash.
  • Mass and dimensions is all that matters for the simulation.
I now have obtained a Harley graphics model (new models can get in a few hours)

More next week!

here's a quick look at the overhead with a red line approximating the fluid path
I also included the MC path
  • note the graphics are not Harley 3D Graphics
For the simulation we used the approx weight and dimensions for Harley

A couple quick updates of the preliminary demonstration of msmac3D Capabilities in Motorcycle SUV crash simulation
NOTE:This is a DRAFT:

This is simply a quick demonstration of some of the 3D modeling capabilities of our msmac3D simulation and how it can help with understanding 'what happened' with a vehicle and crash dynamics.

couple notes:
  • we included an option to remove the RF wheel
    • From scene photo it separated probably at impact
    • There is an animation option to show the travel of the tire with the vehicle to its rest position indicated in the scene photo
  • This is a prelim quick look the Motorcycle movement
    • We do not match the rest position
    • It probably more likely slid on its side to position of Rest
    • We were interested in showing/explaining the fluid trail/movement of the SUV vehicle from impact to rest
