HOWTO: Scale Graphics Models

Post by MSI »

if you are using a 3D Model with large sideview mirrors, you may need to graphically scale the vehicle to display properly.
(when you download from the cloud the scaling should be included to display properly)

It is an easy task
  • note the actual overall width is used in calculations
this is for graphics display ONLY
The procedure to scale:
  1. First check the overall width with and without the side view mirrors and find the % difference
  2. Next from 3D Graphics click on the vehicle
  3. Then select the Edit Model icon to the right

  4. then change the Y scale by % required (overall width with mirrors/overall width without mirrors)

    Here' is the graphical change
    • NOTE: the simulation does not include the mirrors so the overal width and/or when polygon shape is used.

Ran across this again so good idea to always check you 3d models
on an overhead view, when you click on the model, it shows a purple 'box' which is the overall length and width
Since generally width is NOT including the sideview mirrors, be sure to change the Width scale (see below)
we have an enhancements we are adding
  • adding the scale factors to vehicles so you won't have to do this for new models (and many older models as we update them)
There is logic to check for mirrors on new models but sometimes it doesn't catch all situations so best to double check
The following has very large side view mirrors so scaled to 120% in Width
  • IMPORTANT NOTE: THIS ONLY CHANGES THE GRAPHICS, THE SCALING DOE NOT AFFECT THE SIMULATION

jAN 31, 2024: ADDED TO VER 4.5.02
The scaling logic now will exclude the Mirrors and Antenae from the scaling
  • IF
they have the word MIRROR or ANTENNAE in them (rename them! if you are creating a 3D Model!)
    HOWEVER
older 3D Models need to be updated to include separate Layers MIRRORS and/or ANTENAE
so
if you encounter a model with a scaling issue, PLEASE LET US KNOW!
Also be sure to see the top part of this topic for HOWTO change the 3D Graphics SCALE

The actual simulated model is BASED ON YOUR INPUTS and this is merely a graphics scaling issue.
