On Toyota...The New York Times just don't get it...

Post by MSI »

July 25, 2010: In an Op-Ed pieces along the lines of a recent Forbes article In their Toyota coverage reporters aren’t letting facts get in the way of a good story bandwagon..., the New York Times has an Op-Ed today entitled "Toyota Still Doesn't Get it" which demonstrates that the New York Times Editors "don't get it" as they are simply serve as press release publishers for litigation lawyers interjecting litigation advocacy items into reporting and opinion pages.
Sure, you have Toyota and other manufacturers running scared that each and every complaint they get might go viral and bring about more bloviations from NHTSA and others…but are we really reporting on the situation?
Or is this Op-ed simply parroting proclamations of one side or the other of litigation who are both trying to shape the narrative?
Perhaps what is killing newspapers is not only the inability of readers to spend any time reading more than simple Twitter headlines on the web but maybe also the slackness of investigative reporting and Editors to fill newspapers with actual in-depth reporting and substance.
Come on New York Times…you can do better than that!
