Prosecutors get away with attempted murder

Post by brian »

April 10, 2011: NY Times Op-ed piece by John Thompson, who spent 18 years in prison for robbery and murder, 14 of them on death row. He's been free since 2003, exonerated after evidence covered up by prosecutors surfaced just weeks before his execution date. Those prosecutors were never punished. Last month, the Supreme Court in Connick v. Thompson, No. 09-571 decided 5-4 to overturn a case won against the district attorney who oversaw the case, ruling that they were not liable for the failure to turn over that evidence — which included proof that blood at the robbery scene wasn’t Mr. Thompsons.
Are proseutors getting away with attempted murder?
And how many other cases are out there where they (and others) have they knowingly and wrongly convicted people through withholding evidence?
This Op-ed piece demonstrates how prosecutorial misconduct came very close to murdering a man.
