Q: I want to calculate the deltaV values based on the CRASH Damage algorithm for the RICSAC collision tests using MATLAB. But I need 'h' distances of the test cars to calculate the deltaV's. Is there any information on the 'h' distances for the RICSAC collision tests?
A: The CRASH "h" is calculated based upon the measured crush information (the crush depths, the width and the offset from the CG). From the NHTSA CRASH3 Technical Manual (note:the file is 8 megs, we have also posted up a local copy of the CRASH3 Manual in the event the NHTSA site is unavailable).
We have also posted up pages from the manual related to the calculation of the Moment Arms of Resultant Collision Force on Vehicle 1 & 2.
These equations combined with the previously posted RICSAC Crush measurements.
How does CRASH3 calculate the 'h' distances?
