Garbage Truck Weight

Post by MSI »

Noted i don't have any specs posted and saw this on the NAPARS Facebook page so repost here:

This was a 2013 Autocar ACX in 6x4 configuration.
  • That means it had 6 wheel ends, 4 of them driven, IOW, both rear axles.
  • It had 20K front axle and 23K rears, for a placarded GVWR of 66,000 pounds.
  • Autocar's website lists a tare weight of about 16,500 for the chassis.
  • Heil lists this "Half-Pack, Sierra" front-loader body as being 17,300 pounds,
so the estimated weight might run about 34,000 lb with the driver.
Maybe 35k when we add in fuel and incidentals.
We had a weigh-slip for this rig, though, showing that it scaled out at 42,180 pounds after dumping a load.
Huh.
Published data gets us close, but I was surprised at the disparity.
One wonders how much was left inside when they ran over that scale. I wasn't allowed to check.
