- Raleigh police recently purchased a new device that enables some patrol cars to scan for stolen license plates while riding through city neighborhoods. The device, known as the automated license scanner is capable of storing thousands of license plates numbers that have been reported stolen. When a patrol car rides in a neighborhood where a stolen plate may be located, the device alerts the officer.
