Wheel Breakage Simulation with msmac3D

Post by MSI »

A client asked about whether the program could simulate a wheel breakage/off crash scenario.
Yes we can.
Set up a demonstration/instruction video, please see below
Main steps are:
  1. Set the distance between nodes to 0.5 or so increment between to model the undercarriage impact with the ground
    Nodes display.png
    Nodes display.png (380.88 KiB) Viewed 15463 times
  2. Set the Node/Ground Friction Multiplier to a value other than 0.0
    • 0.0 turns off the nodes
    • In the below sample where both front wheels broke off we set the multiplier to 0.50 for first test, and to 1.0 for second test
    • with ground default friction 0.75 that makes the effective MU=0.375 and 0.75
    • We also ran with the wheels intact and partial braking on the front wheels (damage induced)
  3. Go to Grid and insert card(s) 302 seq 1 (time of and new radius inputs) 302, seq 2(time of and new friction) for each wheel
(Help file will be posted shortly on these inputs)
  4. In below video impact was at approx 0.32 seconds, so set Radius change to 0.40 seconds and rolling radius to 4" for RF and LF tires
More to come in the Instruction video to be posted soon
