Note on Norton and other anti-virus real time Scanning programs

Post by MSI »

If you have Norton anti-virus or another program with ‘Real Time Scanning’:
    • Open the Norton (or whatever anti-virus program you have)
    • Go to the anit-virus program control panel or Options Dialog and
    • Disable ‘Real Time Scanning’ during the installation.
We have taken care to digitally signing all our program. That is supposed to avoid any 'real time scanning issues'
    • Unfortunately ‘Real Time’ Scanning might still decide to quarantine some of the files
      • Norton sometimes does not even give you a choice, it simply quarantines and won’t install certain files. No message. No warning.
PLEASE NOTE: We have not encountered this in our latest update, we are mainly alerting you in the event after installation you have issues.
If you are worried about disabling Real Time Scanning
    • Please try the installation without disabling it and let us know if it works properly after installation. If it does not, then some component was most likely ‘quarantined’ for whatever reason.
If you run into any issues, please let us know which anti-virus you use and we will further investigate the issue for you.

recent Followup comment made by a user:
  • I am very hesitant to update when there’s case work in progress. For whatever reason, about ½ the time the updates fail even with AV & Windows Defender disabled.
If you encounter any issue with an installation: Failure of the installation, Differences in version, PLEASE let us know!
In as much detail as possible so we can help remedy the situation.

Also note there are simple steps you should take to be sure you lose no work time dealing with installation/update issues:
  • For current casework, be sure to do a backup of any current cases. You can use the File->Backup to create a ZIP file of ALL FILES
    • See Easily Backup and Restore Projects and select ALL FILES (the thread mentions input files and that should be your default but if you think a case critical issue might arise back up ALL FILES
  • If you encounter ANY issue with an update you can install the prior version from our Archives.
    • We recommend you simply load the prior version and when you have time let us know the issues. If by chance you have an older case which was run on an older version and you get different results then all older versions are still available.
Please also let us know what differences you find in any results (there should be none unless you use a new option, etc).
We may be able to resolve the difference with a simply change so you can use our latest version without any concerns.
WE WANT ALL USERS USING THE LATEST TECHNOLOGIES!
