Structural Nodes/Hardpoints Notes

Post by MSI »

The following are some notes on Structural Nodes/(formally called hardpoints) the way msmac3D enables simulations of rollovers
When you create a new msmac3D simulation the default is to use a simple model of the structure since most simulations do not include a rollover.
If you have a reconstruction which includes a rollover then you should do the following:
  • click on the vehicle to bring up the menu to the side

  • click on the 'rubber duckie' which will bring up the options related to structural nodes

  • there are two options, nodes based on vehicle type (crude but provides some structure) and Structural Nodes from 3D Model (at top)
    • Selecting the nodes based on 3D Model brings up this additional menu

  • When you select nodes from 3D Model you pick a distance between nodes (in ft) 0.50 is a good choice (1.0 is fine for starters)
  • Next click on the rubber duck in the dialog to update the nodes per any changes (a message will come up)

  • The dialog will reload with the number of nodes listed
You can also select 'Add Wheel Guard' which puits extra nodes around the wheel to avoid near parallel interaction of the wheels with the terrain)

  • Click the upper right corder to return to the main 3D Model dialog
    • You can now also display the nodes with the 3D model and the nodes alone
below is a display of a vehicle with nodes every 0.5 foot and the other vehicle based on the 'vehicle type' for comparison
